It's a great character study, and definitely not an impersonation (the conic Julia Voice often ends up sounding like a cross between Irish and Newcastle in Minnesota but I found it more endearing than distracting.) The episodes reach beyond the Pepin and Cordon Bleu years to look at less mythologized parts of her life and paint her a full person, rather than a caricature of herself. The acting and writing vary episode to episode, but it's a fun watch
