I wouldn't have gone this far if it wasn't for the developers doubling down on their bad ideas. This game has problems and issues; one would argue that just like previous Civ games it has issues but this is just a far departure from what was a familiar and proven formula. I think k enough people have complained about the UI but I will too just so it is known. While the graphics have returned to be more realistic like Civilization 5 the UI is straight dog water. Half the time I can't differentiate my units from others, units and their icons are tiny, the screen feels more busy yet offers less information and as cool as some stuff is to look at I would prefer being able to know how to trade than spending half an age trying to figure it out only to never achieve a single route. Citystates in the making either love or hate you and typically they hate you. The aspect of combat now feels off as the tribe units healeanimg if you start between two tribes that don't like you, you're forced into a militaristic play style. The Ages system is terrible; resetting any kind of progress you've made, replacing troops, demoting cities back into towns, making each age feel like not only a slog but a waste of time to upgrade anything besides your capital. My last complaint is the mix and match leaders and civilizations. I paid 70 dollars to play a 4X game; if I want Harriet Tubman of America, just give it to me, don't make me jump through 15 hoops in a 4X game to unlock these things and call say that you want more players to finish a civ game. Part of Civilization's fun is playing it Marathon speed, wasting 600+ turns before making a catastrophic mistake and then resetting. Please before you buy look at reviews, watch videos and really ensure this is what you want to commit yourself to.
