Tomi Adeyemi’s book has a great representation of the hatred in our world, and the hatred towards the Maji citizens is very emotional. An example of this is in the novel when one of the main characters Amari witnesses Binta’s death and Amari’s thoughts are, “This isn’t happening. The world starts to spin. Binta is safe… But my desperate thoughts do not change the truth” (Adeyemi, 43). Throughout the book, Adeyemi gives so much emotion in the way she describes scenes like this one which makes my heart go each and every way and the same for any other readers. Tomi Adeyemi’s use of tone and mood is absolutely fantastic and really gives the reader an engaging read. Adeyemi was able to show her tone as righteous and gave a sentimental mood for the readers.
