I was excited to watch this show by SLB. Visually, it is completely breathtaking. From the sets to the costumes, jewelry, and visuals, everything is deliberate and stunning, intended to create emphasis in every single act. Manisha, as expected, is fantastic and even Sonakshi holds her own. Why, then, the 3 stars? It lacks soul. There is no emotion, no soul. The only people one can sympathize with are the male eunuch and Sanjeeda. It is intended to create empathy for the prostitutes of those times, but not of the tears and hardships reach the heart. I thought the woman who played Alamzeb was miscast. Her acting doesn't hold a candle to veteran actresses and her plight failed to create sympathy. It is an imaginative world, beautiful, but just from the outside. It also lacks humor. Didn't they enjoy their power and have any laughter in their lives? Didn't the bond and have any humor? It was hard to continue watching in one sitting. Tajdar also felt disconnected from the freedom fighters. His character-building was lacking. Why did he join them against his family? We didn't get to see his emotional journey. It was all very plastered. So yeah I found the series lacking, but would recommend it for the beauty. Having said that, I highly doubt that they wore pastels. Most of the costumes are pastels and dull colors, but I think they wore bright colors in those times. It looks like a Sabyasachi run-through.
