You can’t live in the past. Eddie Murphy failed to successfully recreate his role as a slick, street savvy cop. A large jacket and loose shirt didn’t hide his pudgy and aging body. Even trying to shoot him in sitting positions or above the waist didn’t help. The characters didn’t mesh or gel together in their interactions. It was a rehash of the old plots and dredging up the old characters didn’t help. This was one case of a broken axle, oops Axel. This was a hard watch.

I watched the original run of the show from 2010-2013 and was a fan. Just finished watching all four seasons again on Hulu and wasn’t overly impressed with the show this time. The nonstop barrage of insults, disrespect for personal space and property, and total violation of individual rights and due process by Jim was hard to sit through. Jim comes across as an insecure, sophomoric loudmouth. The Callie/Jim relationship is tedious at best. Carlos and Daniel are both excellent supporting characters and offer a lot to the show. My two biggest takeaways from watching The Glades for a second time were why the show wasn’t canceled after Season 3 and why someone didn’t kill Jim Longworth earlier in the series.
