Like everyone else, I'm pretty frustrated that Nintendo decided to charge for this.. but nonetheless I bought it because it's $10 (compared to their Switch 1 tech demo costing $50). Wanted to see if there was any special reason why this costs $10 and honestly.. I don't see anything. Maybe they're charging because they think the secrets and behind the scenes info about the console is a "premium" service in their eyes.
Now I'll start with the positives. You learn a LOT about the Switch 2. Including some very interesting facts that Nintendo would normally not talk about. You also get to learn some of their history a bit, such as how they developed controllers, or cameras back in the day compared to today. If you're a hell of a Nintendo nerd, I feel like you'd enjoy this part of the game. The minigames are also a bit creative in ways.
But otherwise, this game is.. not great. You don't get to learn or interact with any part of the console you want. You have to do everything in order, and in order to progress/unlock new areas, you have to "stamp" key areas of the part of the console you're on. (For example, the screenshot button on a joy-con). These stamps are notoriously hard to find, and they're invisible until you get close. Once you collect all the stamps for that area, you unlock the next one. This is the only part of the game that is mandatory/involves progression. Everything else is optional.
You know how I mentioned Nintendo gives you facts about the console? Hope you memorized them, because another massive chunk of this game involves taking quizzes. The quizzes are way too easy and obvious as well that they just feel like they're lazily implemented, but I also don't know how Nintendo finds this quirky, fun, or innovative. It's just weird... and at that point, I felt like the console facts should've been an article or interview, rather than part of the gameplay experience.
Also this game feels WAY too corporate and lacks the Nintendo charm. No Mii support?? Just straight up generic avatars?? The minigames don't even feel like they have the charm sometimes.
Speaking of the minigames, some of them are just annoyingly complicated to do sometimes, while others have some sort of arbitrary requirement that makes them no fun at all.
I also hope you have no plans to 100% this game, because you WILL have to buy/own some accessories to 100% the game as it's required to launch some minigames. Such as the Pro Controller, Webcam, and even a 4K TV that supports 120hz.
All in all, while NS2WT has very interesting facts about the console and some okay-ish minigames, this game was not fun at all. 1-2 Switch was $50 yet had more value compared to this, and that game had MP4s and JPGs used to provide the experience. Astro Bot is a full on 3D platformer and yet it came with the system for free. Nintendo could've at least made this engaging and.. they didn't.
Please Nintendo, make a proper tech demo next time.
