Want hard game? Want fun game? Want to play for 100's of hours? Get game.
On a more serious note this was my first "Soulslike" I had ever played. What an introduction I must say. Game is beautiful, well designed and very fun but also made me question my ability to play other games like it.
As of this review I have now played and beaten DS1, DS2, Bloodborne, and about to be done DS3 very soon. This game certainly took it easy on us new players in the sense of the new mechanics like fast travelling from anywhere and not just from bonfires or in this case graces, non linear gameplay allowing a lot more exploration of an open world as opposed to sections you must complete to move forward.
That being said Elden Ring has it's areas like this. Draconic Sentinel blocking the entrance into Leyndell Capital was the reason I put the game down for 6 months. I can only attribute this to you gotta "Git Gud". Once you get into the flow of the game and find a build that best suits your playstyle you will then start to understand what the beauty of this game is, and that is being able to play it almost however you want.
In comparison to other From Soft games I would not rate this my favourite of them, that spot belongs to Bloodborne but this game is in my top 3 no doubt. Play the game that's all I have to say. Don't let the white knights of the Souls community ruin your playthrough play it however you want and you'll have a good and challenging experience.
