This Saturday I and my husband's movie choice was completely different. I wanted to watch Samrat Prithviraj while he was leaning towards Vikram Hitlist. After some weighing and comparing, I managed to convince him to pick the 300 crore product. From that moment, my mistake started.
First of all, Akshay Kumar looked like a joke. I could only hear Bala Bala Bala ringing in my head whenever his scenes come. From his body language he exposed his lack of class because not everyone has a royal demeanor. If my allusion is not clear, then hear this out loud: Khiladi is not a King material.
I am not going to contemplate much on the political motive or any party's peregrination through this movie, nonetheless, to please whose mamma did the makers of this periodic drama claim they did a 18 year research to create this mess? I mean it's not enough to fail an examination but declaring it's sheer stupidity not lack of preparation the reason for failure just establishes my conviction to steer clear of any movie that rides on over endorsement by politicians who try to do the work of a movie connoisseur.
Some of the facts were an absolute turn off for me, especially when I am revisiting the history in 21st century and honestly, I wish I didn't do a revision by seeing this movie. Firstly, why did an uncle sets his eyes on his niece for marriage? Today this will be classified as deviant behaviour and genetically a huge no no. It's no wonder the girl's dad harboured murderous thoughts which lead to the ultimate downfall of the uncle masquerading as hero. Secondly, dancing towards self immolation. As a woman, I can say with certitude that if suicide is the next actionable for a woman, she is not going to dance or sing. The makers should have parked aside few years from that 18 years to glance on some psychology aspects.
Finally, if the makers of this movie was going to take creative liberty on who killed whom and when, they should have the decency to own up making such modifications.
If the makers or producers of this movie reads my review, I want to share a few insights.
1. When you do sampling of demographics, you may conclude that literacy is low in our country and therefore, you can get away with shoddy performance and sub par movies by packaging them with larger than life statements, promotions and scripted interviews. But remember the people who will laugh at you will be the ones who have actually spent 18 years of their life studying and educating themselves. And these people have the money to pay for the tickets and the brains to critic. Their rejection is more costly than the acceptance of those in your pocket.
2. Purchasing power of people have underwent a change and therefore, theatre experience should be justified for them to spend time and money over any random show. People have learnt to choose and when there is no choice, they have learnt to walk away.
3. Credibility matters a lot. We are not here to give second chance, third chance or fourth chance to anyone.
To conclude, to course correct my mistake of watching this movie, tomorrow we are going to watch Vikram Hitlist. Hope Kamal Hassan can remove the lingering distaste in my brain left behind by Akshay.
