My overall rating for this movie is 8 out of 10. However, the plot was unoriginal and lacked creativity, which was disappointing. It would have been better if the filmmakers had made some changes to make it more interesting. Regardless, they kept the plot neutral and didn't make any strange alterations. The CGI effects in the underwater scenes were noticeable, but not distracting. The movie's 2 hours and 15 minutes run is too long, and the underwater scenes, in the beginning, were overly drawn-out. Nevertheless, the middle-to-end portion of the movie was well-paced and enjoyable. Halle Bailey was a superb choice for the role of Ariel, and her voice matched the original's perfectly. The original Ariel was renowned not only for her looks but also her voice and personality, which Halle portrayed perfectly. I'm pleased that Prince Eric had more personality and charm in this version. Although the chemistry between Ariel and Eric was fantastic, it would have been better if they had more screen time together. SPOILER ALERT!! One significant change that stood out to me was Ariel forgetting to kiss Eric to break the spell. This demonstrated her true love for him and the genuineness of their relationship. Another change was Ariel saving the prince during Ursula's battle instead of the prince saving Ariel like in the original film. While some may find this alteration silly, I believe it showcased Ariel's strength of character and compassion towards humans. This act made King Triton realize how happy Eric made Ariel; it was a beautiful moment. I highly recommend watching this movie in theaters as it was made for the big screen. Overall, this film was enjoyable, fun, and cute, and definitely does not deserve a one-star.
