Certainly not prize winning literature. More of a page skipping illicit love story with tinges of Japanese WW2 brutality thrown in to color an otherwise boring work.
Even took the title from a Basho work of genius. Lots of pages with little reward.

Compared to his other novels, this one seems to have been ghost written. Total waste of one’s precious time.
