This has been a phenomenal watch and one of the best dramas, in any format, that I have seen in a very long time. It was fantastic that I was able to understand both languages at once. So much of it in terms of the issues connected to the Deaf living in a hearing world are so familiar to me. Both my parents became deaf at a very young age. Like Sean they were sent to a deaf boarding school at the age of 5. I remember having to act as interpreter on various occasions for my mother’s many hospital visits. This was because an interpreter wasn’t booked or didn’t turn up. This is still a common issue.
For those of us who are CODA’s (Children of deaf adults) we can completely empathise with Carly and all hearing children of deaf parents. We learn to grow up quickly!
