Just finished rewatching The Girl Next Door and had to share why it's so great and deserves more attention: Elisha Cuthbert absolutely shines in this role. Her charcater as Danielle isn't just (an) eye candy..she's confident but also vulnerable. Elisha makes you care about her journey and choices. She is the heart of the movie. Timothy Olyphant (Kelly)....Easily one of the coolest villains in any teen movie. He is both funny and intimidating. Every scene with him is a highlight. Also have to call out Matthew's best friend Eli... he is hilarious and chaotic. He brings so much energy to every scene, whether it's his wild schemes or over-the-top reactions. Definitely one of the funniest parts of the movie... especially when he gets interviewed in front of the college after his success in the education film "SHUT THE F**K UP ... Next question" at the end. The movie balances humor with some surprisingly emotional moments so well and it captures the early 2000s vibes in the best way possible. The soundtrack, the style, the overall feel. it really is a time capsule in the best way. The Girl Next Door is the only film that reverses the "damsel in distress"' trope and is one of those few movies that actually deal about "true love". Most movies center around the concept of a man saving a woman in distress. This film turns that concept around its head: Elisha Cuthbert is the mysterious girl next door who like a bolt of lightning from the blue, suddenly "saves" Matthew, the nerdy, unfulfilled, unhappy male protagonist from his life of dissatisfaction and inconsequence. This is the reason why if you go on forums discussing this movie, you find a lot of men saying the film makes them feel happy and yet sad and melancholy at the same time because in truth, many men despite their exterior machismo, are exactly like Matthew, quietly, lonely, dissatisfied, and dream about a girl who could appear in their life to 'rescue" them from their distress, a girl who can look at them the way Danielle (Elisha Cuthbert's character) does. The love she feels for him is genuine, as he is the innocence she is looking to reclaim after getting out of the porn industry. Unlike other teen flicks and rom-coms, the movie focuses on describing their love through close up shots of their eyes and facial expressions, the way they lovingly look at each other and signal each other from afar. In other words, Elisha is not just a sex object and the male protagonist a "captain saved a ho", both are living, breathing organisms and humans who are connected with each other emotionally and not just physically. By far one of the greatest, despite growing up only seeing the theatrical version, I've finally got a hold of purchasing the extended cut of The Punisher, included with the Kuwait animation intro, which gives a better explanation of his backstory and military experience. Si vis pacem, para bellum: Latin, If you want peace, prepare for war. Not vengeance, it's punishment.

One of the most shocking endings since The Mist. Apocalyptic psychological thriller. Don't really approve of the beginning with rap music.
