Typically, I'm fascinated by IFC movies, and movies experimenting with styles and aesthetical effects. I have nothing but respect for the director, and how the movie was dedicated to the late wife. Sure, there was a love story intertwined in the chaos, but without chemistry. With the intense amount of visual stimulus, I found myself bored to tears the entire movie. Why didn't I leave? What kept me sitting through this sickening narrative? I guess I give it one star for costumes and over the top Roman inspired environment. Many of the quotes was cliches; To be or not to be .. (Shakespeare).
I had to laugh watching how uncomfortable Dustin Hoffman looked, being a part of this over the top Hollywood productions. I literally felt unwell walking out of the theater. Cesar Catalina's creative gift to the baby daughter and to New Rome, did not convince me as a solution to a future I'd like to be a part of. As they did historically in the Colosseum; Thumb down 👎
