I'm only a few hours in, but I wanted to give an honest newbie opinion on the game. I saw a few people complain about some things that simply aren't true, and is from user error. Try not to pay attention to those negative 1-star reviews, most of them are from people that have no idea what's going on. Here are some pros and cons of the game and I'll give my final thoughts afterwards.
Pros:
Massively multiplayer, huge events where tons of people are involved. My first event was a wolf hunting contest, to see who could turn in the most wolf pelts in the 20 minute period. I think we had a about 100 people doing the event. Although I didn't place first, the competition is what made it fun. It was quite thrilling. Im excited to try more PvE content, and soon maybe some PvP.
The story is actually a bit interesting. I skipped a lot of parts, but there's some neat dialogue with pretty impressive voice acting. I'm the kind of guy that usually skips everything, but I caught myself watching and enjoying the stuff that was unfolding.
There's a ton of stuff to do and explore right off the bat. And the graphics are impressive. I took a few screenshots as I found some nice vantage points with a great view of the landscape.
There are a lot of items to get used to, but there doesn't seem to be any JUNK items that sit in your inventory forever and take up space. I LOVE that part, most games seem to throw all sorts of crap at you that you'll never know what to do with.
Cons:
I joined a guild and now their emblem shows on my cape. It's a cool concept, but I don't always want it showing. I believe there's a way to hide the cape, but I want my cape, just not the emblem. There's also "guild shared pins" on my map now that always show up, and are in my face, and there doesn't seem to be a toggle to turn that off. It makes me want to leave the guild entirely, but I will search for help before I do that.
I don't enjoy the whole 'obtaining your armor and then using materials to upgrade it further'. I just know there's gonna be an item I spend a ton of materials on to upgrade it, then I'll find something better not much later down the road and then I'll wish I never used those materials. So I'm hanging onto everything for now.
