I loved this movie. The acting was great. Jeff & Esther’s love story was beautiful. The scenery was gorgeous. Being born & raised in Virginia & having at least 5 Great Grandfathers & a couple Great, Great Grandfathers in the CSA, it was interesting to see the war from a Yankee’s view point. I had several relatives who died of pneumonia, one killed at Chancellorsville & my dad’s Grandfather was taken prisoner after Gettysburg. He spent the rest of the war in prison at Point Lookout in Maryland. These Civil War movies help me to relate to what all moms & dads were feeling as their sons marched off into the unknown. “Copperhead” made me sad for the young boys of the north…just as in all crisis, the poor boys fight a rich man’s war. None of those boys, southern or northern wanted to be killing each other. Just as it is today, w Russia & Ukraine… young men will die, and for what?? IMO, the south should have been allowed to break away. Slavery would have died out in the south quickly. The union would have eventually been whole again & all those boys who died, would have had lives & families.
