A fabulous, factual film accounting the harrowing escape of Denmark's Jewish righteous during WWII to Sweden. This tiny country's citizens banded together to free approximately 95% of the oppressed, often at peril of their lives. The proximity of Denmark to Sweden via The Øresund (Sound) enabled their fishing fleet was able to ferry frightened people to the safe waters and shore of western Sweden. They traveled mostly at night, their small boats packed tightly, darting through German patrols and at personal high risk.
As a 50% Dane myself (maternal grandparents arrived in Ellis Island as adults), the recounting of the bravery and tenacity of the Danish independent spirit has been a source of humbleness and pride, and a model of what all of us, even with limited resources, can do to help those in need.
