This was by far the best Brigerton season so far. Initially I only watched the first season to see what the fuss was about and while it was entertaining, it's not something I was invested in. (Apologies this review is a bit long)
Decided to watch this season on a whim and it is better in practically every way. The pacing is just right, the acting excellent, and the portrayal of mental illness was well done and sensitive.
I especially loved the side plot love story with the king and queen's men (although I wish it provided some more answers)
However, I do agree with other reviewers that many of the sex scenes were unnecessary, and that a sexual assault warning should have been given.
While I understand the way the show addressed race was both a little heavy handed and lacking at the same time, considering the 6 episode run time and additional side plots it was decent and didn't come across as gratuitous.
I believe some people simply watched the show to get angry about the 'wokeness' and historical inaccuracy - despite it being stated that it is fiction inspired by fact. Brigerton has always had a relatively diverse cast so I don't know why this was a surprise to some people (and yes there is a theory that Queen Charlotte may have been mixed race irl).
I also find it funny how some claim not to be homophobic, but only have a problem with the single gay couple in the show and their sex scene, but no problem with all the other sex scenes 🤷♀️
