This was the first feature film in cinemas to expose the subject of Bigfoot to young Americans and Canadians. It was in big cinemas. I saw it when I was a boy. It was my first exposure to the bug.
The other feature was "The Mysterious Monsters" which contained the Patterson footage. That was an even more persistent bug.
Many boys who saw that double-feature in the mid-1970's later became investigators with the BFRO (Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization). They all got the bug.
The action was sensationalized but even if you dial it back you still get the picture of many Class A and Class B encounters in that region during that period. There may have been a particular bigfoot getting very ornery because locals took shots at it occasionally. People won't do that today. Enough time has passed with no casualties that one can say they are not dangerous.
