I had high hopes for the book, imagining a cross between Hunger Games and Game of Thrones. Wow..big disappointment! Just pages in, the plot was so obvious and formulaic I could already predict what would happen. The characters were two dimensional stereotypes- female protagonist underrated but scrappy, antagonist cruel but sexy, I mean really?? When I decide whether a book captures me, it's because the characters make me care about them. Not this time. I was also put off by the dialogue seeming too contemporary for the setting.
