Without exaggeration, Tears of the Kingdom is the single most frustrating game I've ever played. Without going into spoilers, the history and lore presented in this game is confusing, contradictory, and completely nonsensical. For over a decade, Nintendo has repeatedly encouraged its fans to engage with the Zelda series' lore and history by writing and publishing several books specifically about the series' lore and history. Even without the lorebooks, the games themselves have done a decent job connecting the games to one another. Nintendo threw all of that out the window in Tears of the Kingdom, being a confusing headache to make sense of at best or a total retcon of all the other games at worst. It's insulting and disrespectful of their own series. Even disregarding the previous games in the series, the game isn't even consistent about it's own history and lore! On top of that, the conclusion to the game's story is probably the blandest, most milquetoast conclusion to a game I've ever experienced. If this game can't even take its own plot seriously, then why should I?
