The film, which took 10 years to make, is not only Holland's final film (he died just before release) but a film no one can make again. The interviewees are mostly gone. It not only reveals who - and what - the front line perpetrators of the Holocaust were - what they believed then, what they believe in old age as their own death approaches - but it also asks an inchoate question: What would you have done? No easy answers there. And it is a question, especially now as our social contract seems to be coming apart, that we all must ponder.
