I bought this book to learn more about music history and after reading it, I can confirm that Charles R Hoffer is nothing sort of a music history scholar. Rather, he twists the true story into a white-washed version of music history. Anybody who would put Chuck Barry -- the father of Rock and Roll, in the Rhythm and Soul section is no true historian. The story that Hoffer follows, isn't true to music history, and he simply lumps musicians of color into their own racialized category, rather than give a true and accurate look at music history. I hope he's not still writing music history books!
