This was better than I hoped, considering a sequel is basically never able to live up to the original. A couple of things did bother me. The animated sequence absolutely took me out of the film. I just didn't understand the need. It could have been explained differently, or w/o animation imo. I thought Winona did great with what she was given, but I didn't like how wimpy Lydia was made to be (though I did appreciate that Delia pointed it out, and I understand it was part of the arc of her character.)It just felt like she went along with being pushed around way more than her original character would suggest she'd tolerate. My husband was bothered by Keaton's mouth prosthetic and said he needed smaller teeth or a better fitting one. He was super distracted by the way he talked like it was obvious he had them in.
Now having said that, the story was pretty cute. The campiness from the original very much present. The soundtrack was decent (though I found the final musical dancing scene a tad long). Costuming great. We laughed out loud at many parts. Lots of original tie in's, but not a copycat. The cast did wonderful. While Delia's original character was a pain in the ass lol, she was actually my favorite part of this movie. Even more than Beetlejuice. I actually preferred the original, random meandering storyline to this kind of more complete one that showed origins and then endings. I found it to be part of the charm of the quirky, oddness of the film, but this story was more rounded out in totality to me. Anyone who couldn't follow I'd say stop watching so much short formatting content, you're losing your sense of being able to follow multiple things happening and then tying them together at the end. Overall a very solid sequel. I'll definitely watch again
