Unfortunately the acting and Bernstein’s score was given nothing of the edginess and rawness of the original. The dancing a mere shadow imitation of Jerome Robbins original work. The sets were completely over done and almost cartoon like, it seems just because they could be clever with technology. What on earth was the relevance of the appearance of a genderqueer it seems just thrown in for the sake of it.
There were some good bits though, and good acting. But, please watch the original 1961 version.
