I am currently watching the program with discussion held regarding a hospital in New England that is notifying the public that if alert, oriented people are seeking treatment & care in this hospital, they must be respectful to the staff to include body language & voice tone. The potential patient will be given the opportunity to explain their stance if the behavior is deemed inappropriate. I’m an RN that has worked numerous years in a hospital ER setting. Prior to the pandemic, alert & oriented patients had no issues with cussing, spitting on or hitting staff members. They bring weapons into the hospital. All while staff members are required to be above reproach. Across the country there are cops in the ER to protect the staff. These behaviors escalated dramatically post pandemic. Nurses are leaving the ER for other opportunities in healthcare out of fear. Care is never withheld to a critically ill or injured patient regardless of circumstances. Good for Milford hospital for taking a positive stance for their staff in an effort to maintain a safe working environment.
