I didn't get to watch The Heart of Invictus on its premiere date but was able to sit down the next night to watch all 5 episodes. I saw reports that this docuseries was a failure because it was not in the top ten programs listed for Netflx on its opening day. Give me a break, it was a Friday at the start of a holiday weekend here in the US.
It can be hard to watch due to the focus on the pain and suffering that the athletes endured during their military career and afterward. But this discomfort is important for us to hear and understand if we are to step up to support those who have dedicated their lives to supporting their communities and countries.
This was not a story about Harry and Meghan, although they were seen briefly during the series, due to their involvement with the Invictus Games. Harry had roles as both a military veteran and the founder of the Games. He was also the producer since Archewell Productions developed the docuseries with Netflix.
The docuseries did a wonderful job highlilghting the journey of several of the athletes, moving from what got them there and how the training for the Invictus games assisted in their healing. This is not to say that all were healed during the time. Rather, they were able to see a glimpse of life with less nightmares of their past.
I highly recommend this docuseries and hope that people will also donate money and/or time to continue the good works of this organization.
