Interesting, good in places, nice Italian scenery but.
It's such a good story, ahead of it's time (? Especially that it's written by a man) but the film version is too ambiguous in places
The Ending, The Rescue should have been terrifying, heartbreaking, crash! Bang! Wallop! And heart-rending.
But it was so underhandled.
Some of the characters ( the mum and the sister!) were delightful in their awfulness. And Phillip (Freddie - Rupert Graves) excellent as repressed Englishman.
Some film maker needs to have another go at this - maybe as a series - and tease out all the undercooked elements; sexism; class; England Civilization Empire Vs Italian Savages...
