Bombs Away, Snail!
I love war thunder. I have about 1100 hours on record and am hoping to have more. My viewpoint is that of the Free-to-Play player, with a positive KDR (even in the planes that are matched terribly)
War Thunder is unique. There is currently no other game that has the same level of realism mixed with an easy-to-get-into playstyle, on top of being F2P. For anyone with a love of aviation, history, or tanks: this game's for you
That's where the good stuff stops. After you get to the 4th rank (late-WW2 vehicles), the grind become unbearable. War Thunder is based on repair costs. You get shot down, you pay in-game money to repair immediately or you wait for a free repair. Planes that consistently perform better earn less money per action (like shooting down enemies, bombing targets etc), planes that don't make more, incentivizing variety and premium aircraft. This sounds reasonable.
Let's take one plane, the F-104G Starfighter. It isn't the best plane, since its missiles are relatively weak for the aircraft it faces, and its turning capabilities aren't much. This must mean that the plane has a low repair cost and high multipliers right? Wrong. I need a FIVE TO ONE KDR to break even with the plane. Break. Even. And if I want a free repair? I need to wait a MONTH. 28 days, to be precise.
MiG-21MF? Same story. F-4F? Same story. MiG-21bis SAU? Same story.
Gaijin. Slash repair costs. Increase multipliers. Make it so that I'm not punished simply for having the audacity to play in a plane that doesn't cost 70 dollars in this "free to play" game. And, make your premium aircraft less expensive than the price of a AAA game? Maybe then I'd put my money in. Until then, take my one star review.
Bombs away, Gaijin.
