I bought the book in support for Britney, to hear her story from her perspective.
I think what she had to endure as a young woman growing up in the spotlight was appalling and as a woman of a similar age, and just as a woman, living, in the world, I can relate to much of her struggles against the patriarchy esp. as a people pleaser.
That said...she is not a writer and no matter how much assistance she may have gotten to write this book, in my opinion it has not helped turn this into a good piece of literature.
Perhaps her style of story telling is just not my cup of tea; I felt the book was filled with anecdotes that go no where and no real purpose or point to add to the story. She comes across as angry and a bit blinded by this. I hope this book was cathartic and healing for her, but as a reader I was left disappointed.
An example of a comparative book that was written very well is Jennette McCurdy''s book 'I'm glad my mom died' - similar lives of trauma but Spears comes across as bitter and a little superficial while McCurdy's was dark and funny.
To be fair McCurdy always aspired to be a writer and was clearly born with talent in that area and Spears is a singer/dancer who never said she was a writer, so maybe I'm being to harsh a critic.
That said she is a 5 star performer and a 1 star writer in my opinion,
