An amazingly poignant and dark portrait of mental illness. Pointing the finger squarely at a capitalistic society willing to medicate rather than solve mental health issues and the abuse, neglect, and horrors that can create them. Not since Michael Douglas in Falling Down have I felt such an emotional crescendo as Joaquin Phoenix created for the audience. His ability to invert joy and sadness throughout the descent coupled with outstanding cinematography and lighting which dragged me completely into the mania experienced by Joker. Thank you for such a provocative and engrossing story.
