On Christmas Day 2017 Peter Capaldi said to the world ‘Doctor I let you go’ and so did I. I let go of my favourite doctor, my favourite show runner and my favourite show in one of its best episodes. In my opinion the moment 12 regenerates Doctor who ended, there is nothing after that. It’s a perfect end to what was up until then the perfect program.
I’ve been a fan of Doctor Who since I was four and my passion for the show borders on fanatical, I try to get hold of whatever Who content I can. But no more.
This has nothing to do with the Doctor now being a woman before anyone try’s to make that the issue. The fact is this: in previous seasons there would always be a 1 or 2 dud episodes. Yet for every Closing Time we had a Day of the Moon. For every Twin Dilema we had a Revelation of the Daleks, for every Black Orcid an Earthshock. For ever Hell Bent a Hevan Sent. But I cannot say truthfully that a single episode of series 11 is by any means good. The acting, the writing, the direction is subpar in every episode. Jodie is not the Doctor, she simply doesn’t have the gravitas or presence to pull it off. The only entertainment I can find in series 11 is Bradly Walshes Graham, and that’s only due to him getting a few comedic lines. Everyone else is dull as bricks or as effective as a parsnip in a butchers.
And the doctor is irritating and doesn’t seem to know what’s going on and can’t seem to calm down ever.
By default the only good episode of series 11 is Rosa, however it’s ravaged by a terrible villain, an over the top interpretation of racism that borders on comical and a main cast that feels like something like off of Cebebies.
Previous Who had its ups and downs, but this entire series has been one massive ditch that will take a new show runner and a new doctor and a new main cast and better writers to get out of. Until then, I’ll just rewatch the previous seasons of the good doctors.
