I was so looking forward to this movie, but I was left disappointed in what it could have been. The movie was so slow in the beginning and jumped around constantly to different times and places, making it hard to follow. I was apathetic towards Oppenheimer and lost track of some of the storyline. All of the performances were great, however many of the stars were under utilized. I was so frustrated by the gratuitous sex scenes with no purpose. Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh are wonderful actors who were not given the same character exposition as the male characters. Instead the women play tropes with no explanation of why they are acting in certain ways. The real life women they played apparently had tremendously fascinating lives, but there is no hint of that in this film. I’d like to see a film about either of the women.
I’d say best part of the movie was the last 1.5 hour, from the bomb test through the trial. Sound was intense and cinematography was excellent.
In short:
1. Background music throughout the movie was jumbled with mumbling dialogue.
2. Limited character development and too many characters and places.
3. Sex scenes unnecessary.
4. Story probably better told in 2 hours.
5. Did not show the actual bombing of Hiroshima.
6. Felt like three different stories crammed together.
7. Seemed like a documentary series that cut out the heart of the piece.
