An awful adaptation of an excellent book series. Flashy effects try to paper over the awful writing but the show is broken from the outset. The classic world building is ignored from the outset, despite the books having maps and a detailed glossary. Feels like the show runners tried to adapt this from Wikipedia rather than actually reading the source material. Modern race and gender politics are at the heart of the writing despite the world having established race and gender politics for each country in the story.
