The show is absolutely terrible. I am confused and disappointed that so many people have given this show high ratings. I think “You” intended to make a commentary on today’s increasingly shallow culture; however, it actually exploits and embodies the self absorbed American millennial era, with a healthy dose of white privilege and “woes me” self pity mentality that it sets out to mock. It further insults the viewer by trying to convince us that it’s main characters are different and “deeper” than everyone else on the show, when really they are just as empty and self obsessed as the characters they poke fun at. The acting is cringe-worthy and the main two characters are unbelievably bland when they aren’t being obnoxious or stupid. Beware if you’re actually looking for a good thriller, this is not it. It’s basically gossip girl with, dare I say it, dumber characters and a side of glamorized sugar coated perversion.
