Coming into the series I wanted to be optimistic, given Disney hasn’t always put out the greatest Star Wars Content (Episodes 8&9, Solo, Boba Fett). Though, there are some redeemable series/ movies they put out, this wasn’t the case for Obi-Wan. I gave it a shot in the hope that they would redeem the franchise bringing elements of the prequels and the original trilogy intertwined. This was a big ask I guess. It seems that the creators of Disney are looking to break away from the characters that we love and grew up. As I understand that it is important to expand upon the Star Wars universe, this wasn’t the moment to do so. So much of what the fans wanted was a badass show (excuse my language). This was anything but that. The people who grew up on the prequels saw amazing light saber duels and epic fight scenes where the force wasn’t something you saw rarely being used.
The script is overall terrible. I don’t know who the writer is but they can’t write a show to save their lives. The diversity in the show doesn’t bother me one bit, but the terrible actors do. Ewan and some of the other side characters do the best with what they are given, but other characters who I won’t name don’t (I’m sure if you actually watched you will know who I’m talking about. The music score is another area that needs desperate improvement. Nothing about the shows soundtrack screams “epic” or even conveys emotion. Rather it is just background noise to fill the drawn out plot. This show had the potential to reboot the franchise to the top again. Instead, I feel like they left it in the hands of people who had other plans rather than giving the fans what we’re desperately craving, action, plot, emotion, music, (nostalgia even though it’s being over done in my opinion across all movies).
I hope the show redeems itself but I highly doubt it. I will watch because I’m a huge fan and Star Wars has been apart of my childhood as I’m a 90s baby. I also want to give respect to the franchise I once loved dearly, but it seems that franchise is long gone. I can see this show being a “trend”. It’ll catch fire because people will follow the mass heard and no one will ever have an opinion of their own. God forbid that. Like all trends, they’ll pass and this show will be forgotten. To a franchise that was once timeless, classic and game changing creativity, you’ll always have place in my heart, but it seems like you’re being taken in the wrong direction.
