I read this book as a 15 year old boy. It was timely as I was about to get my driver’s license. The book offered me entertainment and escape from a less than desirable family life. I was encouraged to pursue the same dream. Get a car and obtain freedom. I saved every penny and bought my first car. A 1953 four door Ford Fairlane. I gave the old man a $100 bill and as he tossed me the keys he said, “ don’t wreck it kid.” It was not fancy or pretty but, it was mine. Freedom, at last.
