I REALLY wanted to absolutely LOVE this movie. Instead...meh. I was hoping Disney would give their audience enough credit to stick closer to the J. M. Barrie source material but, alas, this wasn't the case.
I don't know who at Disney needs to hear this, but Lost Boys are boys for a reason. Peter brings Wendy to Neverland for a reason (hint: it's not to fight Hook). Tink absolutely despises Wendy and isn't looking for some girl-power connection. In fact, she tries to get Wendy killed by the Lost Boys when she arrives in Neverland. And Hook not being eaten by the crocodile after he falls overboard is just weird. Tiger Lilly's presence was a pleasant surprise. However, without her being the one rescued by Peter in the lagoon, Disney couldn't adequately explain why she was so protective of him.
There's something fundamentally wrong with a Disney movie when I only laugh twice and at supporting characters. I mean, the best part of the movie was the brief period Tick Tock was chasing the pirates in the lagoon. And Mr. Smee's quips were lifesavers. Even the animated movie did a better job at explaining why Hook was petrified of Tick Tock.
