Although it's very "hard" to like a book about a femicide, it is much more than that. The author accomplished her goal of portraying her sister as a full person, with a full life ahead of her, before she was murdered. Liliana's journals and letters to her friends (of which she always kept copies!) Provide an intimate view into her mind and heart. Regardless, every woman who is killed, whether by a lover, husband, ex-husband, would-be-lover or stranger, has a life that is taken away from her and from her loved ones. Prof. Cristina Rivera Garza shines a much-needed light on this world-wide epidemic of femicide/feminicide with heartfelt prose and insightful commentary on the societal structures that promote and facilitate this type of crime.
