My Rating: 2/10
First of all, the reason is simple: I know the real story, and they changed about 80% of it.
Second, the show constantly pulled me out of the atmosphere with unnecessary filler scenes that added nothing and completely broke the immersion.
Third, there were way too many sexual scenes—it felt more like I was watching a sadistic erotic series about a sexually disturbed man rather than a horror story.
Fourth, they disrespected the victims by portraying one of them as if she was sexually deviant, which is completely false and honestly disgusting.
Fifth, it really felt like the show wanted us to sympathize with a psychopathic serial killer and put all the blame on his mother.
As a Muslim, I come from a strict culture where sex is not allowed before marriage—so should a young man go out killing people if he can’t have sex? Of course not. Even if his life was difficult, that doesn’t justify anything or make him someone we should pity.
In reality, Ed Gein was simply a psychopathic killer, nothing more.
As for all the filler scenes—like the Nazi storyline, the filmmaking sequences, the sexual liberation scenes—I skipped most of them. It was obvious they were added just to stretch the story and make it “dramatic,” even though the show is supposed to be semi-documentary. I tried to ignore those additions and continue watching it as a normal horror series, but even then, I still couldn’t get into the story—neither as fictional horror nor as documentary horror.
It was cheap, overly sexualized, exaggerated, and honestly disgusting.
I only finished it out of pure curiosity, nothing else.
Was it engaging? No.
Was it scary or up to the standards of real horror shows? Also no.
What did I gain from it? Nothing—just nausea and discomfort throughout the whole thing.
If someone wants to watch it just out of curiosity, as a fictional dramatic time-waster, then go ahead.
But if you’re expecting something legendary like the first and second installments, don’t waste your time. 👍🏼
