It was relatively slow, cerebral, character driven, with some good high energy combat scenes that served to punctuate the plot instead of feeling like the plot was written around them. Everything good Star Trek should be. It opens with a soul crushing scene and from there on you can't help but want to see what happens because you want Jean-Luc to be better.
