This is a work of cinematic art, at times stately, at times fierce, but underlying all, with subtle movement and quiet beauty in every frame. It's compelling once you give up trying to grasp the plot - a loose hold will do (as Christopher Nolan knows well) as long as you surrender to the whole and let the director take you through the veil of a thousand years of history to an imagined land where glory and intimacy walk in forgotten glades and wood smoked temples. Sometimes, as with Narnia or Middle Earth, the riches come with suspending disbelief and diving in.
