My first Cirque du Soleil show - Corteo. The way everyone raves about this show I was so excited to see it. Unfortunately I left the show thinking to myself "what in the world did I just watch". I had no clue that Cirque was more about theater and story telling than acrobatics. The entire show was in another language and very hard to understand what was going on. It may as well have been the opera. Everything was very slow moving and the movements were drawn out. I found myself dozing off at times. The set design was nothing more than some curtains and minimal lighting. The costumes might have been ok, but the colors were all monochromatic and everyone blended in together. Hard to tell what was going on at times. The acrobatics were pretty amaxing, but only made up about 20% of the performance. The music that went with the acrobatics did not match the energy of the acrobats. It's truly unfortunate as you could hear it in the lackluster applause by the audience. In-fact when the show ended, I couldn't tell if it was over or if it was going into the next act. Very, very strange. For the price of the tickets for 2 people, I could have taken my entire family to circus vargas and would have been much more entertained. Apologies for such a harsh review, but this completely caught me off guard and I am still shaking my head. If you like theater, slow paced movement, over-acting, and don't care that it is in another language, then this is the show for you. Unfortunately, I will not be attending anymore Cirque shows. 😕
