This film cannot be judged by the same standards as Ghostbusters 1, 2 and Afterlife.
3 great movies but all with their own unique reasons for being.
Ghostbusters was the original that started the hype and franchise.
Ghostbusters 2 was the first attempt at a sequel, and whilst not received that well, I actually think its fantastic.
Afterlife was the continuation we needed after the awful reboot attemot. Also a perfect goodbye in movie to Egon/Harold Ramis.
Frozen Empire is now attempting to do something none of the other films had to do, set up for future installments without reliance on Venkman/Stantz/Zeddemore.
Whilst the film is a little clustered, it introduces new characters along side the Spengler Family, the Paramormal Research Facility and new Proton packs and Traps.
The movie has a great looking villain (people moan about his screen time, but dont forget Gozer got barely 15mins in the original)
Theres comedy, nostalgia, coming of age and imposter syndrome issues all dealt with during the film.
Regardless of it gets a little confused at times Frozen Empire fits well into the Ghostbusters pantheon.
I hope it leads to TV series spin offs and future movie installments.
As a dedicated Ghostbusters fan i should be more critical than anyone else, however im positive for what can be done moving forwards.
Watch the first 3 installments before you watch Frozen Empire and you will see how well this 'mixed' movie fits with its bretheren.
An amazing popcorn flick that will hopefully bring younger viewers to a legendary series of films.
