First half of the game is promising. Feels like a solid soulslike with roots in bloodborne and sekiro for sure. But in the latter portions of the game, it really starts to show its issues. Uninspired boss fights that feel difficult for the sake of being difficult. Wonky hit boxes (I give up trying to fight on the stairs) which prove troublesome in verticality and in tight spaces. DOOM 3 style enemies out of nowhere when crossing an invisible wall…which most you can see before they drop. Others? No. Animations knocking you off edges or following locked enemies to your death long after they’ve fallen.
Biggest issue of all for me were the environments. Once you’ve seen the first 2-3 chapters? There’s nothing new to see here. It’s the same old steampunk gothic levels the ENTIRE GAME. They take no chances and just seen to recycle the same environments. It gets boring.
Throwables can practically trivialize any fight,
I just don’t get it. A really promising game that wore its welcome out far before its conclusion. Later few chapters are an absolute slog. Rather than pacing the last few chapters to lead you into a crescendo? You trudge through mud and it get tiresome.
Better pacing, varied environments, and tuning some areas (gods sakes enough with 4-5 enemies in a cramped hallway), enemies, and bosses and I think this game would have been much better. But it just fellas like they ran out of fresh ideas about the midway point and just said “well, we need to make it longer” and just phoned it in the rest of the way.
Disappointing to see a game with this much promise fall flat.
