Without reading any synopsis, the film will not spoon-feed you the underlying issue that is being dealt with, i.e., homosexuality. And that is exactly what really happens to most. Being a part of the society, especially one who represents a region, like Devassy does, being a potential electoral candidate, we don't want to dramatise our problems, expose it to the world. An actor uses the whole of himself/herself to perform, right from the forehead to the toes. Mammootty's performance does that to the T. Measured and patient performance, like opening a tap slowly to let the issues out drop by drop, never overwhelming the viewer. A very bold exploration done calmly that makes it easier to internalise. You cannot have the extraordinary without the everyday ordinary of life. That is what Kaathal does.
