Bony is a laughable disaster. Where do I even begin. Let's start with the author of the novel on which this movie is based on. Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay is a legend and his science fiction works are highly potent yet sadly underrated. Many of his works have been successfully adapted onscreen like Goynar Bakso and Patalghar, while others were just about ok, like Manojder Adbhut Bari (adapted twice). Bony is a brilliant work of science fiction but unfortunately Parambrata Chatterjee messes this one up totally. The acting is atrocious with Koel giving a terrible performance and both Anjan Dutta and Parambrata himself are woefully miscast. Only Kanchan Mullick provides some hope in a measured performance. The setting of the story is changed from New Jersey to Milan, not complaining about that although I'd rather see the money coming in to Bengali cinema be better utilized. Stale Anupam Roy songs punctuate the movie unnecessarily. The icing on the cake however is the doll that takes over the role of Bony as they probably couldn't find a newborn baby to work with. In one hilarious moment Parambrata's character clicks a picture of an Italian infant to sent it to his in-laws and parents as he is reluctant to show his own child. The implications of an Italian infant being born to an Indian couple are mind-boggling. One star for Milan I guess.
