Why did Jesus weep at the tomb of Lazarus?
My humble take: I agree—it was His humanity. He felt it all—His own sorrow, the grief of Mary and Martha, the mourning crowd. But also the weight of all those He loved, knowing what His future—and theirs—would hold. Once He raises Lazarus, it sets everything in motion. The cross is coming, and with it, all the anguish He will endure. He weeps not just for loss, but for love—and for what it will cost.
Whether Jonathan meant to or not, that’s exactly what I saw in his portrayal of that scene in The Chosen. It was powerful, layered, and deeply moving.
