I’ve been a horror fan since I was a teenager, and I didn’t have high expectations for this movie… because to be quite honest Hollywood has been ruining old movies. But despite my apprehension, I decided to give this movie a shot to see how it stacked up against its predecessors.
I have a lot of complaints with this movie:
This is more of a snuff film than a horror movie. That is the first thing that I want to say.
Horror movies have character development, the plot is supposed to show the audience what made the antagonist or the character focused upon as the serial killer the person that they are— this movie lacked that entirely; this movie just showed that the serial killer suffered a loss (which once again lacked a proper backstory) and he then just went on a killing rampage there was no backstory on his childhood or why he was in the orphanage to begin with. The entire movie was extremely predictable.
Horror movies are supposed to have a strong storyline that flows fluidly, I did not see ANY of that in this movie because the entire story jumped around from one thing to another. There is also no backstory on the teenagers as to who they are or why they’re there in the first place.
The kills are too closely packed together… there is supposed to be a build up to Leatherface killing…. The kills are in extremely quick succession and the saddest part is, there’s no true unique variety to the kills… the directors just jammed as much death and gore as possible into a short window of time. And the effects for the deaths were some of the weakest that I have ever seen.
Everything about this movie is just all over the place. It’s not as if the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a new idea; The directors of this movie had
MULTIPLE sequel movies to follow as a guideline to making a new one… but like many movies that are being produced today, this movie completely missed the mark.
I have to rate it something, because 0 isn’t an option. But I only think it deserves half of a star…and even that is being generous.
Also, the end credit scene is pointless. This is a horror movie, not the MCU. Stop trying to format your end credits after Marvel, you’re just grasping for straws.
