I am a big fan of Peter Berg, however every step and scene of this series is almost identical to the previous step/scene with different dialogue. It became very uninteresting. The story could have been advanced significantly by providing more backstory and including scenes to visualize the events occurring at the destination of the journey. Great cinematography. Very average to poor story telling and script. The story has no larger historical context and is consumed with the brutal struggle of westward advancement (the what) but fails to communicate the driving forces or the key element (the why).
