My review on Final Fantasy VII: Remake [SPOILER-FREE]
Final Fantasy VII for the PS1 my very first game and was a classic hit with it's turn base battle system to it's compelling story. 20+ years the remake of this classic is finally released. If you look at the other comments in comparison with what's good and bad, you have people who will love it and people will hate it.
Before purchasing the game, I already knew the game would divided into episodes, so expect that if you feel that the game was cut short.
Playing 40 hours into this game and I'm still hooked. Being a fan of the original PS1/PC version of the game, it felt like going on a big trip of nostalgia. They really took the time to put details into the characters personalities, music, environmental, battle system and everything about it. There were some additions to the game such as weapon upgrades, quests, characters that make the game engaging and also more content to the story to keep you wondering what will be next.
I will say this though; we need to understand that things are being approached differently and a lot has changed in the gaming world which requires taking risks. Nomura took some risks with many games that he directed and it developed a love/hate fanbase. From my take, it seems like he mixed elements from the different Final Fantasy games and meshed them together to make the game more detailed, intricate and exciting while adding some twists and turns to the story.
The game may not entirely be the same game it was 20+ years ago, but if you're open-minded to seeing where the game will take you as a fan or first timer, give it a chance. If not, that's fine, view the gameplays on Youtube or streamers who are willing to share their experience with you.
